October Caddis

$2.75

These bugs are everywhere, and with adults hanging around for some time after hatching, clouds of swirling caddis in the evening sometimes make fishing uncomfortable when they’re landing on your face and crawling into your ears! Well known patterns like the Elk Hair Caddis are great when casting upstream on rivers to get a drag free drift, but don’t be afraid to tie on a Lafontaine sparkle pupa pattern and let it skate downstream with the current – this can often be more productive. A bead head larva pattern fished as a dropper or with a strike indicator drifted deep can be fished throughout the day even when adults are not around in great numbers. The Travelling Sedge, a large lake caddis, can be found in many mountain lakes in British Columbia, and the small black caddis pattern works well on the Bighorn River in Montana.
